Anyone who follows my posts knows that I am against publishing AI material as self-authored content. One does not take credit for other people's work- and I'm not. The ten "tips" below are entirely the production of chatGPT. Apologies to whatever author (or authors) who the bot borrowed the material from. The Auth-mentors space is not for profit, so the material is reprinted with the caveat that no remuneration is being collected and subject to takedown if someone objects enough to prove ownership. What I will say here is that none of this is revolutionary or new, it's stuff you see in advice articles all the time.
It is succinct though and gets all the OBVIOUS stuff out of the way. Perhaps coming from an AI it will be seen as more legitimate for some people. For myself, I am putting this post up as a linkable answer to the MILLIONTH time someone has asked for "tips" which, if you didn't already know, bugs the carp (not a misspelling) out of me. Writing is art. You approach it like any other art form- through immersion- DUH. How does one immerse?
To which I respond, "You CAN feed yourself, right?" For the impatient TL;DR people - the quick five bullets from Greenway (my non-AI contribution) :
- Write persistently and consistently
- Read persistently and consistently (STUDY)
- Baby steps and progression
- Build process, voice, and technique, and understand that the difference between trash and brilliance is iteration.
- Constantly improve, seek feedback and develop a thick skin, prepare for the long haul Here is chatGPT's version
